Software Asset Management
Technology
Technology
is not limited to the discovery, integration and automation of Software Asset Management (SAM) data running on a
network. These are the starting blocks of a SAM implementation, but to mature SAM, consideration needs to be
placed on how technology and data are related, where and how is data stored, who has access to the data, how
long is the data kept, verified and data mined. Technology enables accuracy and completeness when implemented
correctly and the correct quality assurance procedures are applied to the data. If there is a reliance
solely on the technology to identify and report on the data correctly, this will be a major error as the data
when analysed under an audit situation will not be accurate to be totally defensible.

Introduction to Technology Part One
There are
a number of vendors that provide SAM software. As with all types of software, some vendors are stronger in some
areas whilst being weaker in others. To begin to develop an evaluation criteria on what is the technology most
suited for your organisations environment. To request this article click on the appropriate button for members

Introduction to Technology Part Two
This
article is a continuance of the discussion from the part one article called “Software Asset Management
Introduction To Technology Part One”. In that article we covered scope, available technical skills, architecture
and approach. In Part Two we will begin the discussion on Data Integrity, which will conclude in Part 3. To
